1.\u00a0 Harvest party was a big success.\u00a0 Many thanks to Brennan for planning the activities.<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0 A sign was placed above the spigot to remind gardeners to use the water buffaloes and rain barrels before drawing water from the spigots.\u00a0 Jessica reported that plans are underway to provide \u00a0better support for the water buffaloes and repair the fallen one.<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0 A meeting will take place with the Steering Committee and the new City Department of Public Works official, Chuck O\u2019Neill on Tuesday, October 22nd<\/sup> at 4 pm at Delanie\u2019s.<\/p>\n 4.\u00a0 Grow Pittsburgh provided cover crop seeds, and they are stored in the shed.<\/p>\n 5.\u00a0 Our rain barrels have been painted by the contest winners, and they look great!<\/p>\n 6.\u00a0 It was brought up that many gardeners have not fulfilled their volunteer responsibilities and do not attend meetings.\u00a0 How can we ensure participation?<\/p>\n 7.\u00a0 We still need for someone with a gas-powered weed whacker to cut a path through the weeds so that gardeners will move their weeds to the back of the space.<\/p>\n 8.\u00a0 Grow Pittsburgh will create a sign for the compost area to help bring gardeners into compliance with correct composting practices.<\/p>\n 9.\u00a0 We are in need of a gas-powered wood chipper to prepare compost.<\/p>\n 10.\u00a0 A camera is needed at the entrances to garden, as unsavory activities have recently occurred in the \u00a0garden.\u00a0 Sarah will look into the process of obtaining cameras and the cost, and will discuss same with the police.<\/p>\n 11.\u00a0 Grow Pittsburgh is still waiting to hear from the City about placing a bulletin board on the outside of the shed.<\/p>\n 12.\u00a0 We still need for someone with carpentry skills to install shelves inside the shed.\u00a0 Materials will be \u00a0 provided.<\/p>\n 13.\u00a0 A reminder to gardeners that our season ends on December 9th<\/sup>, and gardens must be cleaned out by then.<\/p>\n 14.\u00a0 Donna will meet with Carla on October 29th<\/sup> to discuss available grants and funding opportunities.<\/p>\n 15.\u00a0 If anyone has connections to Scout troops, we would like to have them talk to us about building bat houses and mason bee nests.<\/p>\n 16.\u00a0 Renee is arranging for volunteers from the college communities to mulch in the garden on October 26th<\/sup> and will arrange for delivery of mulch.\u00a0 Volunteers to help the students with these \u00a0activities are appreciated.\u00a0 Time TBD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Bandi Schaum Community Garden Minutes, October 9, 2013, @ CCI<\/p>\n 1.\u00a0 Harvest party was a big success.\u00a0 Many thanks to Brennan for planning the activities.<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0 A sign was placed above the spigot to remind gardeners to use the water buffaloes and rain barrels before drawing water from the \u2026<\/p>\n
